3 Kinds Of Sports Bras

By Heather Dean

Having the right sports bra is important when you are exercising to prevent damage to what is called the Cooper's Ligament. This supports the breasts and keeps them looking good, so you want to give it the support that it needs in order to prevent sagging.

Your sports bra should fit well. Not too tight and certainly not too lose. If you are not sure what size you need than you should get fitted.

Many department stores (particularly Macy's and JC Pennys) have trained bra fitters. If you are uncomfortable having someone else fit you for a bra, there are many good guides online that you can follow to get the right measurements for a perfect fit.

Shopping for sports bras can be a daunting task, but when it comes down to it, there are 3 main types of bras to consider.

#1 Compression bras.

These bras are best for smaller breasted women - A or B cup. They are almost always pullover and usually come in sizes like small, medium, and large.

Just like the name implies compression sports bras stabilize your breasts by compressing them against your chest to reduce movement. These bras are widely available and most manufacturers make them.

#2 Encapsulating bras.

This is the style that works best for those with a C or greater cup size, and can be very effective.

Encapsulating bras do exactly what the name suggests they isolate each breast and encapsulate - or hold still - each individually.

This type of bra will be built more like a regular bra with closures in the front and back and bra sizing (ex: 36D). It may also have underwire.

#3. Hybrid bras.

This type of bra combines the technologies of the other two and works very well for women with larger cup sizes.

No matter what type of sports bras you get you will need to make sure it fits well and is stabilizing. A good sports bra should always be a part of your fitness wardrobe.
